Kansas Medical Center (KMC) is a fully physician owned 58 inpatient bed hospital that opened in 2006. • Three inpatient nursing units: Medical Surgical, Telemetry, and Intensive Care

Position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
The successful applicant will have one of the following professional backgrounds and education:
 Radiology Tech.
Must have a degree from an accredited school of Radiology.
 Paramedic (EMICT)
Must be a graduate of an accredited Emergency Mobile Intensive Care program.
 Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
Must be a graduate of an accredited Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist program.

Licensure and Certification Requirements:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required within six months of hire.
Conscious Sedation Certification preferred but not required.
Additional licenses and certifications required depending on professional background:
 Radiology Tech.
Radiologic Technologist License issued by the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts required.
American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) credential required.
 Paramedic (EMICT)
Paramedic Certification issued by Kansas Board of Emergency Medical Services required.
 Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist
Certification issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International required.

Experience Required:
One year of experience as a Cardiac Catheterization Technician or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience required.

Position Summary:
Performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex and invasive cardiac catheterization procedures.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Assists the physician in placement of catheters, monitors patient’s reactions, completes EKG and pressure readings; maintains record of protocol; operates defibrillator and provides other assistance as needed during patient procedures.
2. Sets up room prior to each procedure; prepares sterile tray and appropriate medications; balances and calibrates equipment including, but not limited to, imaging equipment, pressure recorders, pressure sensitive transducers, densitometer, power injector and oxygen consumption apparatus.
3. Prepares patients for catheterization procedure by providing a variety of functions i.e. attaching 12-lead electrocardiogram electrodes, non-invasive blood pressure cuffs, and sterile prepping and drape of patients.
4. Collects and analyzes samples of blood and timed expired air; calculates hemodynamic data such as average content and saturation of blood, 02 consumption, cardiac output and degree of shunt.
5. Confers with patient to obtain information for laboratory records, explains procedures, allays fears, and elicits patient cooperation.
6. Cleans, repairs, and performs routine preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure proper functioning; cleans and restocks procedure rooms.
7. May perform conscious sedation after successful completion of conscious sedation course and competency.
8. Assesses, prepares, and positions patients for procedures and communicates patient’s condition to physician before, during, and after procedures. Performs hemodynamic monitoring.
9. May scrub heart cath procedures, peripheral angiograms, device implants, and some Interventional radiology procedures.
10. Actively participates on appropriate committees and Performance Improvement activities.

6. Must possess knowledge of: professional theory, practices, and regulations as well as knowledge of medical equipment and instruments; taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings; and administering a variety of medications and/or treatments as directed; and knowledge of medications and their effects on patients.

Work Environment: 
This position operates in a typical temperature-controlled hospital environment. Work environment generally includes moderate-to-high risk of exposure to blood/ bodily fluids. Risk generally includes moderate-to-high risk of exposure to infectious disease. This position does include occupational risk of exposure to tuberculosis (Category 2). This position also includes possible exposure to radiation. This position includes a moderate to high risk of exposure to Hepatitis B.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; occasionally required to sit for long periods of time; regularly required to stand for long periods of time; regularly required to use hands to handle, grasp, or feel objects, tools, and controls; regularly required to walk or use other means of mobility; occasionally required to reach with hands and arms above head and below waist; occasionally required to kneel, stoop, and crouch; and occasionally required to use push and pull motion. The employee must frequently be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds using proper lifting techniques.  The employee is required, with or without corrective lenses, to have visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection; operation of machines; investigating and assessing; determining accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work; and to make general observations.
